The demand was high so were the prices. The fact ws demand for workers and raw materials used in war were vital. Roosevelt decided we needed to save whatever we could and put it towards those supplies. So people were only allowed to use so much of those raw materials. They often would organize scrap drives they would advertise everywhere trying to encourage you to give any of those supplies to the men. That was the same way with money.
